How do I Sponsor a child?
To sponsor a child you may go to the Kids Needing Sponsors link and select a child by clicking on the picture. Then, select the "I want to sponsor this child" link. You may then e-mail the Sponsor desk and let us know your contact information so that we may contact you. Or you may e-mail our Sponsor a Child desk and have one selected for you.
I sent an email requesting to Sponsor a Child. What happens next?
We will attempt to contact you within 48 hours. We will let you know if the child is still available. If so, we will get your contact information and mail a sponsor packet out to you.
If not, we will ask you to reselect.
Can I write my child?
Yes. Your child is required to write a letter to you four times a year. We encourage you to respond to these letters at a minimum. You are welcome to write more.
How do I write my child?
You may opt to e-mail or handwrite a letter to your child. If it is easier for you to e-mail a letter there is a link on our website.
Can I send gifts to my child?
Yes. This is a feature through the Proyecto Fe program that to our knowledge is not available through any other child sponsorship program. If it is they will typically limit the gifts to paper, i.e. cards, small coloring books, etc. Because we have multiple Mission trips per year going to Guatemala we can arrange to hand carry any gifts down. Please make sure that the child’s full name and number are clearly attached to any gifts and letters.
Do I have to package any gifts I send down?
Yes. Make certain that the gift items can not be separated from the package. Many people purchase backpacks for the children’s gifts. The children can use the backpack for school and it is easier to keep the gifts from getting separated.
Can I send help with larger needs of my child such as better dental care?
Yes. Proyecto Fe has means to directly spread financial assistance on a per incident basis. It is appreciated and encouraged as these children are poor and as a result their medical and dental health is most often neglected.
Can I pay automatically with a credit card?
You may choose to have your credit card deducted every month or you can write a check.
When will my Sponsored child know that I have sponsored him/her?
Your child will be informed of your sponsorship within 30 days. We encourage filling out a sponsor profile form and sending it to us with your completed application so that we may send it on to the child.
Can I email my Sponsored child?
Yes. All e-mail letters for the children will go to a translator and then be forwarded to your Sponsored child.
Who translates my letters to my sponsored child?
Proyecto Fe has translators fluent in Spanish to translate all incoming and out going mail from Guatemala.
What does GU-200 mean?
Children with a GU-200 number are all graduates of Colegio Bethel and attend the 10th through 12th grade away from their homes in San Pedro La Laguna. Most of these grade levels pertain to a vocation chosen by the student or for those whom are more fortunate, preparation for transfer to a university. 100% of a sponsor's contribution goes directly to offset the expenses incurred by the student. The average of these expenses ranges from $750 to $1,500 per year dependant upon whether the student has a family with which they can live.
